Winnipeg's Young Adult Beginning Experience (YABE) is a youth-based group to help young adults of parental divorce, separation or death to work through the grief process with support by a team of young adults assisted by adults. Our focus age group is 16-26 year olds.
The weekend begins on the Friday evening and ends Sunday afternoon. Team members lead participants through personal
presentations by team members, private reflection, journaling, and sharing in a small group. There is a Christian element to these weekends but we also welcome those who are not.
Winnipeg's YABE team is proud to announce that we've just completed our 4th weekend, with weekends running in May and October of each year. In 2002 a group of four young adults and two adults traveled down to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to participate in a YABE weekend, and as a result they became committed to re-establishing the program in Winnipeg. After several months of planning our very first weekend was finally put on with a big success.
Winnipeg YABE’s first weekend was held on April 25-27, 2003, with the assistance of the Omaha, Nebraska team. Like any new group, it has been a tough start. Now 3 years later, we're finally on our feet with a growing team of youth and adult team members.
These weekends provide young adults with a safe atmosphere to share and a way to cope with the pain they are feeling. That and a chance to meet new people and make new friends!
