The History of Beginning Experience:

The first Beginning Experience weekend was held in 1974 in North Texas. Its growth has been significant. A network of well established Beginning Experience teams now exist throughout the continental US, Alaska and Hawaii. There are 3 teams in Canada - London, Sarnia and Winnipeg.

There are over 150 teams throughout the world in Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Britain, Scotland, Ireland, and Singapore, with new ones opening constantly. The International Ministry Center, which is the head of the entire organization, is located in South Bend, Indiana.

It has been the dedication, creative genius and practical ingenuity of thousands that have nurtured the growth of the Beginning Experience. These same qualities have produced similar programs for the children and young adults from single parent families.

In 1981, eight people from Winnipeg went to Crookston, Minnesota for a Beginning Experience Weekend. These eight, who were associated with the St. Bernadette's Parish, formed the nucleus of our original team. Their decision to carry on to other separated, divorced and widowed persons what they had learned and experienced led to the beginning of this important peer ministry in Winnipeg.

The first adult weekend was held in Winnipeg in April 1982. The profound change in those who attended made evident the need for Beginning Experience.
